Ever since I was little, I couldn't imagine getting married anywhere other than lil' old England. I have always imagined myself walking up the path of the Church in the small Lake District Town where I grew up. It's a beautiful little church and was where my mother got married. Life has a funny way of never turning out how you expected though!
On 03rd June 2008 I met the most amazing guy I could ever hope for...my very own Italian Stallion! 3 years later on 03rd June 2011 he asked me to marry him and, all of a sudden, my dreams of getting married in amongst rolling English hills have turned in to thoughts of Italian Villas and Vine Yards...
We decided long ago that if we were to marry it would be in Italy. His family is much larger than mine, the climate is much better and, lets face it, it is a BEAUTIFUL country!
This of course brings with it an additional set of challenges... having to try and understand the laws and customs of another country, plan a wedding from 600 miles away and trying to please both families!
On my initial wanderings around the web, I failed to find one comprehensive guide to getting married in Italy. I am a little reluctant to hire a wedding planner as we are on a bit of a budget, so, it looks like it is just me and my limited detective skills (and hopfully the help of my OH's family who are based over there)
Everything I find out, I shall record here, in the hope that it will help others in the future!
We shall be getting married in North Italy (either Lombardy or Veneto) but I imagine much of what I discover can be applied to any region of Italy.
If you are reading this and have either been married in Italy or are getting married in Italy and are further down the journey than I and are willing to share your story or advice then please get in touch!
Thanks for stopping by!
